KAPOK BUDS /MARATHI MOGGU

Kapok Buds, also known as Marati Moggu, are the dried flower buds of the Silk Cotton Tree (Ceiba pentandra), widely used as a spice in South Indian cuisine. These buds have a strong, earthy aroma with a slightly bitter and nutty flavor, making them ideal for enhancing traditional dishes. They are a key ingredient in Karnataka, Andhra, and Tamil Nadu cooking, particularly in bisi bele bath, biryanis, kurmas, and rasam. When roasted lightly, their bitterness mellows down and adds a unique depth to spice blends. Apart from their culinary use, Kapok Buds are valued in Ayurveda for their digestive and anti-inflammatory properties. They are believed to aid in regulating metabolism and supporting gut health. The buds are also used in home remedies for relieving cough, cold, and mild fever. In spice blends, they combine well with pepper, coriander, cloves, and cinnamon for a robust flavor profile.
